5 Things To Do In Waco Texas

(And Restaurants)

  1. Visit Magnolia

Magnolia is the most popular attraction in Waco. It is owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines from the home renovation series "Fixer Upper". There are multiple attractions owned by the company. First off is Magnolia Market at the silos. This is what is most well known in the area. There is a mini square filled with shops, food trucks, an old chapel, and even a baseball diamond! They also offer a restaurant named "Magnolia Table". The food is incredible and the presentation does not disappoint. It is a few blocks away from magnolia market and I would highly recommend you go for at least one meal. Lastly I would suggest Magnolia Little Shop on Bosque. This is Joannas original shop that is now used to sell all items which are final sale or is slightly damaged. If you would like to read more about Magnolia in deeper detail, you can check out my blog post all about Magnolia here... https://www.theteentrvlr.com/post/magnolia

2. Twisted Root Burger Co.

Twisted Root Burger Co. is designed on the outside to catch your eye, and well, it would be hard to miss it! The outside of the building is coated in murals of things that are a little "different" to attract attention such as giant burger aliens, and old fashioned cars. The food was delicious and filling. This restaurant is well known in the area and was even visited by Guy Fieri from the well known tv show, "Diners Drive-ins and Dives".

3. Waco Mammoth National Monument

Usually when I think of Mammoths, I imagine living somewhere cold like Antartica, or Alaska. I would've never even thought of the possibility of them living in Texas! You can visit an indoor dig site with multiple mammoth remains. The fossils were found deep in the ground, and after the digging project was done, a building was built around the site to help preserve the bones, and to help you get out of the Texas heat. This was a last minute stop for us but I'm so glad we went. It was a fascinating experience!

4. Fabled Bookshop and Cafe

This bookshop is perfect for a lazy afternoon. There is a large selection of books, the decor is beautiful, and the atmosphere felt as if you were in a movie. When I go into a bookshop, I like it to be appealing to the eye (along with having a good selection of books of course). At Fabled Bookshop, you get exactly that. Everything felt pieced together with a sense of purpose. The kids section was adorable. The Narnia closet was a nice touch as well. If you enjoy taking photos at each of your destinations, there is a mural out front that says "And they lived happily ever after to the end of their days". I could spend hours in this bookshop, and I'm sure you could too.

5, Wācool Tacos & Tamales

Wācool Tacos is located inside a "food mall". The tacos were packed with flavor. The look of the building was like a small town food truck. If you're a fan of Mexican food, you should check it out.
